Grimsthorpe Castle
- Grimsthorpe Castle, 13th century-; north front, 1723-, Sir John Vanbrugh.
- The transverse hall, arcaded like a Roman aqueduct, is held, vice-like, first between pairs of huge heavily-banded Doric columns, & then between the corner towers, creating a great sense of dynamic, & slightly foreboding tension.
- The detailing of the 1st & 2nd floor tower windows shows Palladian influence.
